On April 16, 2014, the management of Kok Tobe Park signed a contract with the French company 'POMA' for the supply of equipment for the construction of a new gondola road at Kok Tobe. On December 6, 2014, the acceptance certificate for new gondolas (cabins) of the future cable car will be signed. The project is financed by Nurbank. “Kok Tobe Mountain is one of the most beautiful and amazing places in Almaty. It was decided to completely update the cable car for the convenience of residents and guests of the city,” said the Chairman of the Board of Nurbank JSC Kantar Orynbaev.
Recall that the complete reconstruction of the cable car began on September 1. During the work, the upper and lower stations and technical supports will be dismantled. Instead of the existing pendulum cable car, a new gondola type cable car will be built. During the construction, Kok Tobe Park will operate as usual. Access will be available by special buses, and there is parking provided for guests arriving by private car.
According to the plan, as early as June 2015, comfortable eight-seat cabins of a new type will transport Almaty residents and city guests to Kok Tobe. It should be noted that the Kok Tobe cable car was commissioned in 1967, later in 2005, work was carried out to strengthen the slope of Kok Tobe Mountain and reconstruct the cable car complex.
