Nurbank Continues Early Repayment of Government Support

Nurbank Continues Early Repayment of Government Support

Nurbank will return another 6.5 billion tenge to the government ahead of schedule, funds received under the Program for Enhancing the Financial Stability of the Banking Sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Taking into account previously returned funds, the total amount of prematurely repaid government support will reach 11 billion tenge.

The Board of Directors of JSC "Nurbank" has decided on an early partial buyback of subordinated bonds issued under the Program for Enhancing the Financial Stability of the Banking Sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The bank will buy back 6.5 million bonds, each with a nominal value of 1,000 tenge. The total amount of the early repayment will be 6.5 billion tenge.

This is already the second stage of Nurbank's early return of funds received under the state program. In 2025, the bank returned 4.5 billion tenge early. Thus, following the new buyback, the total volume of prematurely returned funds to the government will amount to 11 billion tenge.

Nurbank received government support in 2020 under the Program for Enhancing the Financial Stability of the Banking Sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The bank then issued subordinated bonds totaling 46.8 billion tenge for 15 years. After the first early repayment, the volume of obligations under the program was reduced to 42.3 billion tenge. As a result of the upcoming buyback, it will decrease by another 6.5 billion tenge to 35.8 billion tenge.

The ability to continue the early return of government support is due to Nurbank's stable financial position and the positive dynamics of key performance indicators. "The early return of government support is a consistent and conscious decision for Nurbank. The bank's financial results allow us to meet obligations to the government ahead of schedule while maintaining the necessary resources for further development and economic financing. We intend to continue this work, with the timing and volumes of subsequent stages determined based on the bank's financial results and stability," noted Alexey Mazhuga, Acting Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "Nurbank".

As of August 1, 2026, Nurbank's assets have approached 602 billion tenge, having increased by 6.6% since the beginning of the year, or by 37.3 billion tenge. The business growth is accompanied by maintaining the quality of the loan portfolio: the share of non-performing loans (NPL) is 4.86%, remaining significantly below the regulator's set limit of 10%. The bank's deposit portfolio also demonstrates positive dynamics. Since the beginning of 2026, its volume has increased by 28.6% and, as of August 1, has reached 424 billion tenge.

Currently, Nurbank is implementing a new development strategy aimed at further strengthening the financial institution's position in the market. Among its key priorities are digital transformation, development of transaction banking and digital solutions, enhancing operational efficiency, and expanding support for small and medium-sized enterprises. "Nurbank's new strategy envisions qualitative business development based on financial stability, technology, and the needs of our clients. We intend to strengthen the transaction direction, develop digital services, and expand work with small and medium-sized businesses. At the same time, it is fundamentally important for us to maintain a balance between growth rates, efficiency, and the bank's stability. This approach creates a foundation for both the further development of Nurbank and the consistent fulfillment of our obligations to the government," emphasized Alexey Mazhuga.

Nurbank remains committed to the course of early return of funds received under government support. The timing and volumes of subsequent partial repayments will be determined taking into account the bank's financial results and the need to maintain sufficient levels of capital and liquidity.
