On March 4, 2016, the opening of the cable car took place in the Kok Tobe park. The event was attended by the Akim of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baibek, the management of JSC Nurbank, and representatives of the media.
Let us recall that with the financial support of JSC Nurbank, the reconstruction of the cable car began in 2014. Today citizens of Almaty and guests of the city will be transported to Kok Tobe in comfortable new type eight-seater cabins.
“Nurbank has always paid close attention to socially significant projects. Mount Kok Tobe is one of the most beautiful places in Almaty. We are pleased that thanks to our partnership with the Kok Tobe park, the mountain has been renovated, and now visits to the park for residents and guests of our beautiful city will become even more convenient” — said Eldar Sarsenov, Chairman of the Board of JSC Nurbank.
The new gondola road stretches 1620 meters, with 6 supports (the old cable car had 3 supports), 17 comfortable "Diamond" cabins, each with a capacity of 8 people, providing a throughput of 750 people per hour, with the possibility of increasing to 1,000 people per hour.
The trip from the lower to the upper station takes 5 minutes: the lower station greets guests in the city center, where they settle into comfortable cabins and the thrilling journey begins.
The road is convenient for passengers with children and also for people with disabilities: for example, the seats in the cabin can be folded to accommodate a wheelchair.
About the “Ferris Wheel” attraction: the wheel's diameter is 30 meters, with a capacity of 120 people at a time. It has 20 enclosed comfortable cabins with folding windows, allowing for year-round operation. Each cabin seats 6 people. The full cycle of the attraction takes 8 minutes.
The attraction reaches a height of 1136 meters above sea level. From it, you can see the entire city and its surroundings, and in good weather, enjoy the beautiful views of the Zailiyskiy Alatau and even Lake Kapshagay.
